Sarah Stuff / Lyrics [Nov. 23rd, 2008|04:42 am]
[Current Mood | depressed]
[Current Music |Christopher Cross - Words of Wisdom]

I'll post something with content from me at some point. I've just been sorting a load of Sarah stuff out and I feel so totally, utterly shitty now. Then this came on in Winamp. Some people don't listen to the lyrics in songs, just the music. I listen to both, and this song fits my mood so completely.

*sigh* Cheating on me is one thing, and coming from her I could probably forgive over time, but she stayed with him, and that makes it so much worse by an infinite degree. She knows she's hurting people, including me, but won't do anything about it. Part of the reason I cut contact.

Quote from Dog The Bounty Hunter [Oct. 23rd, 2008|05:01 am]
[Tags|, ]

Beth, Baby Lyssa in one car, Dog, Tim and Duane Lee following. On the highway, slow traffic, heavy rain. They're in the wrong lane for their exit.

Beth: K, here's 84th, so we're already beyond. K, We gotta make a boogie here, Tim.
Dog: You're gonna make people mad, just drive right.
Beth: Don't give a damn about making people mad!
Tim and Dog: We know that..!
Beth: Why don't you just sit on the back seat, take a nap!
Tim, Dog, Duane Lee: (laughter)
Tim: ...sit on the back seat and take a nap... you lost total control!

Dog = owned!

Tho I suspect this is one of those things you have to see for it to be truly funny!

Air Drums... [Oct. 13th, 2008|03:54 am]

I might not have had my drum kit set up for many years now (much to my shame), but that doesn't stop me from playing air drums, which can keep you surprisingly fit.... and *gasp* out *wheeze* of *pant* breath... especially when drumming to something metal and heavy...

Random: Things I Want To Do [Oct. 12th, 2008|07:06 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]
[Current Music |Y Kant Tori Read (album)]

Totally random one.

On the list of things I want to do someday...

I wanna drive down (south) the Californian coast on a really nice hot summer's day in a clean and polished white 1990 Chrysler Le Baron convertible listening to Tori Amos's "Y Kant Tori Read" album, ending up in a really good restaurant somewhere with a great ocean view as the sun sets.

Problem is, by the time I get the time and money to do that, there probably won't be any Le Baron convertibles on the road!

I have a l'il computing dilemma.

Comments appreciated!

(Oh, and I pulled the other angsty post. I'm somewhat intolerant of that stuff unless I'm in the mood I'm in when I write it).

[Current Music |Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes / Leather]

I pulled the angsty post. Although I did go and look at the sea, and for the first time in a long time it didn't help at all. I couldn't balance my energy or calm it any.

Thanks for the advice, Dee. Nothing doing here yet.

On car tax... [Jul. 30th, 2008|02:19 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Music |Taco - Superphysical Resurrection (amongst other songs)]

This is one of my rants of the moment.

Car owners here have to pay an annual car tax. There are two ways of determining how much tax you'll pay. The new rules came into force on 13th March 2008.

On vehicles registered after 1st March 2001, the amount of tax is related to the car's emissions, so the more the car pollutes, the higher the tax is. Cars that put out less than 100g/km of CO2 don't pay tax, whereas cars that put out over 185g/km of CO2 pay £210, and if your car is newer than 23/Mar/06 and puts out over 225g/km of CO2 then you fall into the highest bracket of £400.

On vehicles registered before 1st March 2001, the tax is related to engine size. There are two brackets - larger than 1549cc and smaller than. Larger than pays £185, smaller than pays £120.

Now, the government's excuse for having the tax linked to emissions is apparently to tax the biggest gas guzzlers that pollute the most, and to lighten the financial burden for the owners of lesser polluting cars by reducing the amount of tax payable all the way down to zero in some cases.

This pisses me off. If the government was REALLY that bothered about emissions, then they would make the new tax system universal so it applied to all cars, regardless of age. Why won't they do that? Because they know that a lot of older cars have low emissions and they would lose a FORTUNE in tax revenues. So it's easier to screw over drivers of older cars by keeping the tax high in the knowledge that those drivers probably drive older cars because they can't afford newer cars!

Here's an example. The current MOT test (annual safety and emissions check) doesn't test for CO2 on older vehicles, so the printout they give you won't show that specific figure. However, how about some real life figures.

Here's a test result from a couple of years ago for my 1989 1.6l Honda CRX.

CO: 0.17% [Maximum allowed: 3.50%]
HC: 203ppm [Maximum allowed: 1200ppm]

Here's this year's test result for my 1992 2l Honda Accord Aerodeck.

Fast idle test (engine speed 2500-3000rpm)
CO: 0.00% [Maximum allowed: 0.20%]
HC: 0ppm [Maximum allowed: 200ppm]

Natural idle test (engine speed 450-1500rpm)
CO: 0.05% [Maximum allowed: 0.30%]

And one final one, this year's result for my 1995 2l V6 Mitsubishi FTO.

Fast idle test
CO: 0.071% [Maximum allowed: 0.20%]
HC: 17ppm [Maximum allowed: 200ppm]

Natural idle
CO: 0.063% [Maximum allowed: 0.30%]

So as I said, the government won't introduce the new tax system for older cars because (1) they'd lose a lot of money from old cars that still burn nice and clean, and (2) it's easier for them to continue screwing the motorist over in every way possible, this being one of them.

Bloody hypocrites.

Oh yeah, and why are the new emissions measured in g/[b]km[/b]? This is the UK, we measure distances in MILES, thank you. Oh hold on, that'd be the EU telling us what to do again..............

On the EU... [Jun. 12th, 2008|07:38 pm]

Here's some info on the Lisbon treaty...

The Lisbon treaty is the same as the constitution, for all intents and purposes. Even its author has admitted that the bulk of the text is identical. There have been small sections added to it over some environmental issues, I can't be more specific as I don't have my notes here at the moment.

I added a comment to your post about TfL's alcohol ban, saying that I thought it was already a byelaw. Found this today:

From the London Regional Transport Railways Byelaws:

4. Intoxication and possession of intoxicating liquor

  1. No person in a state of intoxication shall enter or remain on the railway.
  2. Where reasonable notice is, or has been given prohibiting intoxicating liquor on any train service, no person shall have any intoxicating liquor with him on it, or attempt to enter such train with intoxicating liquor with him.
  3. Where an authorised person reasonably believes that any person is in a state of intoxication or has with him intoxicating liquor contrary to this Byelaw, the authorised person may:
    (i) require him to leave the railway; and
(ii) prevent him entering or remaining on the railway until the authorised person is satisfied that he has no intoxicating liquor with him.
(Made under section 67 of the Transport Act 1962 as amended by section 37 of the Transport Act 1981 and paragraph 2 of Schedule 4 to London Regional Transport Act 1984 by London Regional Transport and confirmed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Transport and the Regions on 19 December 2000...)

I would imagine there's something similar in "The Public Service Vehicles (Conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors and Passengers) Regulations 1990" but I haven't gone digging yet.

Huw [May. 23rd, 2008|01:09 am]
[Tags|, , ]

I've been a little slow posting this.

On Monday 5th May, a friend of mine, Huw, died. The funeral was yesterday - 22nd. He was 31. Cause of death was liver failure.  His father and I are in the process of sorting out his belongings, which is not a fun task. The funeral was in Wales, where his father lives, and was quite simple, with one of his friends giving an excellent speech about Huw.

Huw was a pretty darn intelligent guy, and for his problems and issues, managed to keep a mostly positive outlook. He was planning on moving back to Wales and sorting himself out. Unfortunately his body gave up on him before he could make it happen. Even though in the last couple of months he had mostly withdrawn into himself and we didn't have much contact, amongst other things, I will miss our long conversations and especially sitting on the cliff top eating burgers!

RIP, good buddy.

Past Lives [May. 20th, 2008|05:30 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

Stand before the gates and watch metropolis
Empires come and go we live forever
And eternity is in your hidden eyes;
Take my broken wings, teach me to fly again

I stand alone...
We stand alone...

Down the empty streets head for the seven hills
Vestal virgins dance we steal the fire
Battered columns stand as silent monuments
Deep inside their dreams I see your memories

I stand alone…

We share the last champagne and watch necropolis
Still and so let's leave her to her silent walks
The sun of Rome is set and our day is gone
A kiss a taste of red from your open lips

I stand alone…

[Covenant - We Stand Alone]

I miss my previous life.

Her. [May. 14th, 2008|11:11 pm]
ARTIST: U2
TITLE: With or Without You
Lyrics and Chords

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait, without you
With or without you, with or without you

/ D A / Bm G / D A Bm G / : / D A Bm G /

Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you
With or without you, with or without you ah ha

I can't live with or without you

{Bridge}
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give, and you give
And you give yourself away

My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win
And nothing left to lose

{Bridge}

With or without you, with or without you, o-oh
I can't live with or without you
O-o-o-oh, o-o-o-o-oh
O-o-o-oh, o-oh
With or without you, with or without you, o-oh
I can't live with or without you
With or without you

Conclusions and Endings [Apr. 10th, 2008|12:33 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood | melancholy]
[Current Music |Christopher Cross - Arthur's Theme]

(LJ ate half of this post and I had to re-write it. Grrrrrr!)

On Friday 28th March,[info]nezure and [info]linellytron came down for a few days. We went out to Possession which was pretty awesome, and acquired a Luke to take back home and do strange things to get more drunk with - tho we ended up getting to bed instead. We did some touristy stuff - Bournemouth gardens, shopping, the beach, West Quay, lots of driving around giving the tour of Bournemouth, Poole, Southbourne, and Christchurch. There are pics to follow as I'm setting up something on Atlantic Realm...

I want to say thanks again to [info]trippingowl for giving me a place to crash and buying dinner and for helping me out by staying up really late, talking. I hope you can come down on the 2nd, it'd be a really great night out. I also want to say thanks to [info]black_dragon88 for the support. I hope your back gets better.

So what happens now remains to be seen. We're back in radio silence and I've been told that it's up to me to break it as and when I've moved on enough - tho I have said that Sarah's welcome to break it if she wishes, and there are a couple of pre-discussed things that we may get together for anyway, but more on those if they actually happen.

We both wish the best for each other, and even if we never talk or see each other again, at least we didn't end it on a sour note. It's not quite an "and they lived happily ever after", but it's not a bad ending either.
